When Technology meets Business

Since childhood Luka, a young 19 year old athlete from Chicago has always been fascinated by how technology and businesses work. Originally from Serbia, he grew up in Dubai but later moved to Chicago as he got some amazing scholarship opportunities to play soccer in his university. Inclined towards technology and business, he believes that e-commerce is the perfect amalgamation of both which lead him to launch three businesses namely; an e-commerce store which fetches him a revenue of $6000 a month and a website called LukaEric.com where he has launched two other businesses one of which is a web development/ building/ consulting business and the other is a merchandise business where he sells clothes for entrepreneurs. He is of the view that e-commerce has very low barriers to entry and has endless possibilities and potential. Being a student entrepreneur comes with its fair share of challenges and opportunities. In the beginning, Luka found it difficult to juggle between playing soccer and sustaining his business. But he has managed to get past that phase and has hired an assistant who helps him handle all the tedious tasks and allows Luka to focus on his academics, sports as well as focus on his business.

Starting a business at a young age and not having complete knowledge on how to go about it exposed Luka to challenges such as losing out on money in his e-commerce business due to rigorous expansion and foolish marketing. The motivating factor which Luka believes has pushed him to work harder to grow his business is the fact that he can be his own boss. But at the same time, he tries extremely hard to not criticise himself for not being able to achieve a certain target or goal.  Over the years, the negative comments from people around him have changed drastically as he has proven them wrong every time however when he does have to embark on a new challenge, he indulges himself in a healthy discussion with realists regarding the problems and obstacles that might come up. Five years down the line, he wants to have multiple businesses, blog and expand his online presence and create an influence. He also wants to travel around the world, be a public speaker for different events and encourage people to take up entrepreneurship. Gary Vaynerchuk has always been his virtual mentor and motivator and the reason for Luka to share his story.

The words Luka lives by are to not care about what people think as reputation is for high school and brand is for life. “Go out and embark on dreams and ideas and don’t be afraid to fail.”
