PASTEL COCHIN

The SWEET success story of a 21-year-old-Student

When the online home bakers are facing a very tough competition in the market, here is Farzana Fathima Moopan, daughter of Mr Shahjahan Moopan and Mrs Rehmath Shahjahan Moopan, a 21- year- old student of SCMS School of Technology and Management- Ernakulam-Kerala, India flying high with her online bakery business – Pastel Cakes. This venture requires an eclectic amalgamation of culinary finesse and innovative marketing techniques, which is not as easy as it may sound, especially, if you follow the bakery trends in India. Even though she loves baking, it was in 2017, she thought to move forward in her life with baking. As a starter, she launched an online bake shop and the results were heartwarming. It was then; her family encouraged her to take up more orders by forming a venture. Her Pastel Cakes earned a lot of love that is devoured by millions for its freshness, taste and the warmth that it leaves behind. Ever since the inception of Pastel Cakes, she not only tasted appreciations & applauses but had its fair share of glitches as well. When asked her about the interest in baking, she says that her mother is the one who instilled in her the art of cooking and baking! Once when the orders started being supernumerary, she doubted herself initially. But it was emotionally rewarding when each client came back to her with a wide smile. When her college friends found out about her venture, they were all the more excited and supportive in turning this into a kickstart success. Soon with all of her college friends’ and family’s support, she started up an Instagram Page called “@pastel.cochin”. To make things look more professional, Farzana took help from her friends in branding, making visiting cards, posters, logo, and promotions. She took time between her college to go for various exhibitions & events to popularize her brand. As we all know, it is a bit hectic to manage studies and work, but she balances it pretty well with a lot of hard work and determination. She bakes the base cakes at night, but does the decorations early in the morning which she says gives her fresh ideas! From the first client, Pastel Cakes was uncompromising with the quality and freshness of the cakes. Pastel Cakes take efforts to meet the ever-evolving preferences of the people. People now have shifted beyond the basic preference of opting for eggless to customized, personalized with their picture (of course edible!) printed on the cake. Pastel Cakes undertake orders for Customized designer cakes, Turkish Deserts, Desert Gift hampers, and assorted desert kit according to personal preferences and likes.

Her bakery space is set up in Edappally, Ernakulam and anybody who wishes to order can either message her in Instagram or WhatsApp her (7356103151). Pastel Cake is also having a stop in Muscat, Oman handled by her sister. Falling into this serious line of entrepreneurship, she is planning to embrace her passion tighter by doing a Diploma course in Patisserie and making her brand big in the crowd. “It was my family that encouraged me to take up orders and delivers the best output initially. I wouldn’t have done a bit if it wasn’t for a family to have supported me to the core. As a student, I have had a lot of sacrifices and hard work to complete each order of mine, but then it is all part of the game!” This young Home Baker earns 20-30 Thousand Indian Rupees per month depending upon seasons and trends. Today Farzana’s success is a testimony to her hard work, sacrifices, determination and sheer grit!
