When Fashion becomes your Passion!
A dream to start up something new years ago inspires a lot of people out there to become entrepreneurs of today. Seth Ohemeng Boateng’s one such dream of owning a business of his own gave birth to Top Stitches, a fashion brand from Ghana that designs ready-to-wear outfits for both men and women. Born on a monday, he was called ‘Kojo’ which means monday in Ghanian language. Apart from designing, he also offers fashion consultation along with training to interns who have the willingness to learn and grow in the industry. Managing a business along with studying was never easy for Kojo, a 21 year old Ghanaian national currently pursuing BA Integrated Art and Industry, but with an effective personal time table every semester and utilising every little time of leisure towards working for the brand made the impossible seem possible.
Kojo faced financial difficulties during his high school days because of which he had to take a year break to work before he could pursue his University education. In that one year, his sister Eunice - a lecturer in the feild of Business Management and an Intellectual Property consultant, supported his decision to venture into the fashion industry and advised him throughout his journey.Talking about his journey, he recollects a lot of people suggesting that he either drop out of college or fully concentrate on his business. But perseverence and hard work is helping Kojo manage both with equal passion. The biggest challenge according to him is when his exams are nearing but his clients also want their outfits delivered to them on time. But he always had Jessica, one of his co-workers as his helping hand in times of high demand. During the first year of his graduation, he was acknowledged with the "Best Student Entrepreneur of the Year 2017-18" and has also received numerous citations and certificates from his University.
Five years down the lane, he wants to create a life changing business and train a lot of Youth who have the passion of becoming fashion designers & craftmanship and also add more services to his existing line of business. In the words of Kojo, “Let us use our time wisely. Learn to take responsibilities irrespective of your family's financial status. Your education schedule shouldn't be an excuse for not being the entrepreneur you want to be. Remember! you can be highly respected in the society even as a young entrepreneur. So start now!”
